JACOB (ISRAEL)
THE WRESTLER GOD RENAMED ISRAEL
“The wrestler God renamed Israel — father of the twelve tribes.”
MEET JACOB (ISRAEL)
He grabbed his twin's heel at birth, bargained for a birthright, and tricked his way to a blessing — then spent one long night wrestling with God Himself and walked away with a limp and a brand-new name.
THE STORY
Jacob the schemer met the God of Bethel on a run from his own deceit — a stairway to heaven, and a promise: 'I am with you and will keep you wherever you go.' Twenty years later, at the ford of Jabbok, he wrestled a Man until daybreak and refused to let go: 'I will not let You go unless You bless me!' God renamed him Israel — 'for you have struggled with God and with men, and have prevailed.' The heel-grabber became the father of the twelve tribes, and his limp preached the rest of his life: God's blessing costs our self-reliance.

PRAYER & REFLECTION
God of Jacob, I don't want to scheme my way through life. Wrestle with me, change me, rename me — I will not let You go. Amen.
