SAMUEL

SPEAK, LORD — YOUR SERVANT HEARS

“The boy who answered, 'Speak, LORD, for Your servant hears.'”

MEET SAMUEL

A little boy in a linen ephod heard a voice calling his name in the night. His answer became the prayer of everyone who wants to hear God: 'Speak, LORD, for Your servant hears.'

THE STORY

Samuel was Hannah's answered prayer, given back to God before he could walk. As a child serving in the tabernacle he learned to recognize the voice of the LORD — and 'let none of his words fall to the ground.' He became judge, prophet, and kingmaker: he anointed Saul, and when Saul's heart turned, God sent him to Bethlehem to pour oil on a shepherd boy named David. His life taught Israel what he told Saul plainly: 'To obey is better than sacrifice.'
