The Lost Sheep

Luke 15:1–7

WHAT HAPPENED

Many people came near to Jesus to hear Him. Jesus told a story about a man with one hundred sheep. When one sheep was lost, the man went after it until he found it. Then he carried it home with joy. Jesus said there is great joy in heaven when one sinner repents.

Jesus Tells a Story

Tax collectors and sinners came near to Jesus. They wanted to hear Him. So Jesus told a story for them to understand.

One Sheep Is Missing

Jesus spoke about a man who had one hundred sheep. Then one of them was lost. Even though it was only one sheep, it mattered.

Looking Until He Finds It

The man left the ninety-nine in the wilderness. Then he went after the one that was lost. He kept going until he found it.

Carried Home Rejoicing

When the man found the lost sheep, he lifted it onto his shoulders. He was rejoicing. The lost sheep was going home.

Joy in Heaven

Jesus said there is more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance. Heaven is glad when one lost person turns back. Jesus wants us to know that one person matters very much.

WHAT WE LEARN

Jesus showed that every person matters deeply to Him. He does not forget the one who is lost. When someone turns back to God, heaven is full of joy. This helps us see the loving heart of Jesus.
