The Good Samaritan

Luke 10:25–37

WHAT HAPPENED

A lawyer asked Jesus what he should do to inherit eternal life. Jesus answered by telling about a man on the road from Jerusalem to Jericho who fell among thieves and was badly hurt. A priest saw the man and passed by on the other side. Then a Samaritan came, saw the man, and felt compassion. Jesus asked which person was a true neighbor to the man in trouble.

Who Is My Neighbour?

A lawyer stood up to test Jesus. He called Him Teacher and asked what he should do to inherit eternal life. Jesus was about to answer him.

A Man in Trouble

Jesus spoke about a man traveling down from Jerusalem to Jericho. Thieves came upon him, took his clothing, wounded him, and went away. The man was left in terrible trouble on the road.

Two People Walk Past

By chance, a priest came down that same road. He saw the wounded man. But instead of stopping, he passed by on the other side.

The Samaritan Stops

Next, a Samaritan was traveling on his journey. He came right to the place where the hurt man was. When he saw him, his heart was filled with compassion.

Go and Do Likewise

When the story was finished, Jesus asked which of the three had been a neighbor to the man who fell among thieves. Jesus wanted the answer to be clear. The true neighbor was the one who responded with mercy.

WHAT WE LEARN

Jesus shows that real love is not only in words. He points us to mercy and compassion for someone in need. When we love people around us, even strangers, we are walking in the kind of love Jesus teaches.
