Abraham Follows God

Genesis 12:1–9; 15:1–6; 21:1–7

WHAT HAPPENED

God told Abram to leave his country, his family, and his father’s house and go to a land God would show him. In that land, the Lord appeared to Abram and said He would give the land to Abram’s descendants, and Abram built an altar to the Lord. Later, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision and told him not to be afraid, because God was his shield and great reward. The Lord also visited Sarah as He had said and did for Sarah as He had spoken.

God Calls Abraham

The Lord spoke to Abram. He told Abram to leave his country, his family, and his father’s house. God said He would show Abram a land.

Building an Altar

The Lord appeared to Abram and spoke to him. He said He would give that land to Abram’s descendants. There Abram built an altar to the Lord who had appeared to him.

Count the Stars

After these things, the word of the Lord came to Abram in a vision. God told Abram not to be afraid. The Lord said that He was Abram’s shield and his very great reward.

Sarah Laughs for Joy

The Lord visited Sarah, just as He had said He would. The Lord did for Sarah what He had spoken. God kept His word.

WHAT WE LEARN

God keeps His word and cares for His people. Abram could trust God before he could see everything ahead, and Sarah saw that the Lord did what He promised. We also can rest in God, who is our help and keeps His good word.
