ZACCHAEUS
THE MAN IN THE TREE • FOUND BY JESUS
“The tax collector in the tree — salvation came to his house that day.”
MEET ZACCHAEUS
A chief tax collector, rich and despised, too short to see over the crowd — so he climbed a sycamore tree. He wanted a glimpse of Jesus. Jesus wanted his whole life.
THE STORY
When Jesus reached the tree He looked up and called him by name: 'Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for today I must stay at your house.' The crowd grumbled — a guest of a sinner! — but grace was already working. Zacchaeus stood and gave half his goods to the poor and repaid fourfold everyone he had cheated. Jesus announced: 'Today salvation has come to this house... for the Son of Man has come to seek and to save that which was lost.'
