NEHEMIAH
THE WALL BUILDER WHO WOULD NOT COME DOWN
“The cupbearer who rebuilt Jerusalem's walls in 52 days.”
MEET NEHEMIAH
A king's cupbearer heard Jerusalem's walls were rubble — and wept, prayed, and rebuilt them in fifty-two days with a trowel in one hand and a sword in the other.
THE STORY
When Nehemiah heard that Jerusalem lay broken, he sat down and wept — then prayed, and went to work. He asked the king of Persia for leave, rode out at night to survey the ruins, and rallied a discouraged people: 'Let us rise up and build!' Enemies mocked, threatened, and schemed; the builders worked with tools in one hand and weapons in the other. When Sanballat tried four times to lure him away, Nehemiah's answer became legend: 'I am doing a great work, so that I cannot come down.' The wall was finished in fifty-two days — and even his enemies knew it was the work of God.
