MARY OF BETHANY

SHE POURED OUT EVERYTHING AT HIS FEET

“The one who chose the good part at Jesus' feet — and anointed Him.”

MEET MARY OF BETHANY

While others served and argued, Mary of Bethany sat at Jesus' feet — and when the time came, she broke open a jar worth a year's wages and poured it all on Him.

THE STORY

Three times Scripture shows us Mary of Bethany, and every time she is at the feet of Jesus. Sitting there listening while her sister Martha bustled — 'Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.' Falling there weeping when her brother Lazarus died — and Jesus wept with her. And finally, six days before the cross, kneeling there with an alabaster jar of pure spikenard worth three hundred denarii — a year's wages — breaking it open and pouring every drop on Jesus, wiping His feet with her hair as the fragrance filled the whole house. Judas called it a waste. Jesus called it beautiful: 'She has done what she could… wherever this gospel is preached in the whole world, what this woman has done will also be told as a memorial to her.'
