JONATHAN
A FRIEND WHO LOVED AS HIS OWN SOUL
“The prince whose covenant friendship with David cost him a crown.”
MEET JONATHAN
The crown prince who gave his robe, his sword, and his claim to the throne — because covenant friendship mattered more than a crown.
THE STORY
Jonathan had every reason to hate David — the shepherd boy God chose over his family's dynasty. Instead, 'the soul of Jonathan was knit to the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as his own soul.' He stripped off his princely robe, his armor, even his sword and bow, and gave them to David in covenant. He defended him to a murderous father, warned him with arrows in a field, and in a dark forest 'strengthened his hand in God.' No jealousy, no rivalry — just loyalty: 'You shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you.'
