AARON

THE FIRST HIGH PRIEST OF ISRAEL

“Moses' brother and Israel's first high priest.”

MEET AARON

Moses' older brother and spokesman became the first high priest — carrying the names of God's people over his heart into the holy place, a living picture of Jesus our great High Priest.

THE STORY

When Moses said 'I can't speak,' God sent Aaron to be his mouth before Pharaoh. At Sinai, God set Aaron apart as the first high priest — dressed in the ephod and the breastplate bearing twelve stones, one for every tribe, carried over his heart before the LORD. He failed publicly (the golden calf), and yet God's grace kept him; when rebels challenged his calling, God made Aaron's dead staff bud, blossom, and bear almonds overnight. His blessing still covers God's people: 'The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make His face shine upon you.'
