BARTIMAEUS
THE BLIND MAN WHO WOULD NOT BE QUIET
“The blind beggar who would not be silenced — and received his sight.”
MEET BARTIMAEUS
A blind beggar on the Jericho road heard Jesus was passing — and shouted until the whole crowd couldn't silence him. Jesus stopped.
THE STORY
Blind Bartimaeus sat where he always sat — begging beside the Jericho road. But when he heard that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by, he began to cry out, 'Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!' The crowd told him to be quiet. He shouted all the louder. And then the most beautiful phrase: 'So Jesus stood still.' The Lord of heaven stopped in the road for a beggar's cry. 'What do you want Me to do for you?' — 'Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.' Bartimaeus threw aside his beggar's cloak — his security, his identity — leapt up, and received his sight. And the last thing Scripture tells us: he 'followed Jesus on the road.'
